Please review these helpful steps to understand the Penn State application as a first-year student.
There are two ways to apply to Penn State, through MyPennState or through the Common App.
If you apply via the Common App, you will still have to complete your STARS Record in MyPennState. This means you must wait for an email from Undergraduate Admissions with instructions on how to access it so you can complete that requirement.
Applicants are required to pay a non-refundable application fee via credit card. Students who have requested and received an approved application fee waiver will be able to bypass the payment screen on the application.
Domestic Fee: $65
International Fee: $75
Some programs require additional items to complete your application. You can review your Application Checklist in MyPennState for details after application submission or review our Admission Requirements at any time.
Penn State uses the Self-reported Transcript and Academic Record System (STARS) to review an applicant’s high school coursework and grades. This removes the need for school counselors to send transcripts to Penn State at the time of application. Enter your high school courses and grades exactly as they appear on your transcript. Please review the STARS Record Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page for more information.
Penn State is test-optional, so submitting scores is not required for your application. Applicants that have elected to have scores used in the evaluation of their application can self-report SAT or ACT exam scores in MyPennState.
Once a student decides to attend Penn State, they will arrange for SAT or ACT scores to be sent directly to Undergraduate Admissions from the appropriate testing agency.
*Penn State does not use or require Subject Tests.
