Jared Heatwole might be one of Penn State’s most newly minted alumni, but he is taking his degree into a well-established record of commitment and success in the working world.
Most Penn Staters are familiar with THON, a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. According to its website, THON has raised more than $147 million to combat childhood cancer since its inception.
The Penn State Brandywine community welcomed a new head librarian, Teresa Slobuski, at the beginning of the spring semester. Slobuski joins the Brandywine faculty after six years at San Jose State University in California, where she oversaw the reference and research services.

Peris Wambui Wamoni, a double major in biology and international studies, recently won Penn State’s Ardeth and Norman Frisbey International Student Award. The award honors a full-time, international student who has made outstanding contributions to international understanding on campus through academic, athletic, campus life or community service initiatives. This past semester, she transitioned from Penn State Brandywine to the University Park campus.

Penn State Brandywine made its claim as the No. 1 team in Penn State University Athletic Conference basketball as both its men’s and women’s teams earned conference championships on their home floor Sunday afternoon. Brandywine men’s basketball won its first-ever conference crown, while the women’s team successfully defended its title and has now won six league championships overall.

Karla Pew came to Penn State Brandywine looking for a degree that would allow her to make a difference in the lives of local youth. Today, as she prepares to graduate in summer 2018, the human development and family studies major is making a difference through her internship in Philadelphia.
Penn State Brandywine’s Orchard Hall has received LEED Silver certification for its sustainable design and environmental performance. LEED, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and has become a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
