Communication Arts and Sciences Minor

The minor in Communication Arts and Sciences (formerly known as Speech Communication) enables students to enhance their communication skills in support of their major. The ability to communicate effectively with others in personal, social and work situations is a basic need in modern society.

CAS 100 may not be counted as part of the minor.
A grade of C or better is required for all courses in the minor.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MINOR: 18 CREDITS

Students must select 3 credits from:

  • CAS 250 - Small Group Communication
  • CAS 252 - Business and Professional Communication

Students must select 3 credits from:

  • CAS 200 - Language, Culture and Communication
  • CAS 201 - Rhetorical Theory
  • CAS 202 - Communication Theory

Students must select 12 credits in additional courses in Communication Arts and Sciences (6 credits must be at the 400 level).

COMPLEMENTARY MAJORS: 

A background in communications will benefit students in any field, but especially in majors that do not traditionally include a strong communications component, such as engineering, information sciences and technology or the sciences.
