July 14 - Summer Grill 'n' Chill

New and returning Penn State students and their families are invited to campus for our annual Grill 'n' Chill. The evening will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a cookout, music, and an opportunity to meet current Penn State students and other incoming first-year students. This is a fantastic opportunity to become involved in the campus community even before the semester begins!

July 18 - Ice Cream Olympics

12:30-1:30 p.m., Campus offices
Visit departments throughout campus to create an ice scream sundae. This is a great chance to learn the resources available on campus. Olympics start in the Office of Student Affairs, 201 Commons.

August 18 - New Student Convocation

9:30 a.m., Commons Gymnasium
Convocation Day is the official start to the academic year and is a required event for new students. The day begins with a faculty processional and convocation ceremony. You will attend workshops and meet with your advisers.

August 19 - Fresh Start Community Building

8:45 a.m. - 2 p.m., Tomezsko Classroom Building
The primary goals of Fresh Start Community Building Day are to:

  1. introduce new students to the many service opportunities available at Penn State and in the surrounding community
  2. help students build new friendships with other students transitioning to Penn State
  3. challenge students to consider new perspectives.

In addition to traveling to City Team in Chester, PA (transportation provided), students will attend an on-campus, interactive presentation by the Metamorphosis Performing Company “Strange Like Me.”

Fresh Start Community Building is a day of service encouraging new students to “get rooted” through service opportunities during their academic careers at Penn State and continue actively serving for a lifetime. Our hope is that, through Fresh Start, new students will develop lifelong civic engagement and build leadership skills through service.

Lunch will be provided upon our return to campus!
