Thanks to Kristen Goessling, assistant professor of human development and family studies at Penn State Brandywine, a new minor may be in the works for Penn State students.
Margaret Bacheler, director of continuing education at Penn State Brandywine, recently took part in a 14-member state delegation to the National Skills Summit in Washington, D.C.
Most Penn Staters are familiar with THON, a completely student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. The organization’s efforts culminate each year with a 46-hour dance marathon in the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park, to which each participating Penn State campus sends dancers as representatives.
Penn State’s Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses and College of Engineering have created a seed grant program to foster research collaborations between engineering faculty at the University Park campus and at the Commonwealth Campuses.
After earning her bachelor's degree in human development and family studies from the Brandywine campus, Penn State alumna Cara Colantuono went on to start Support Homeless Veterans (SHV) — a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending homelessness among U.S. veterans in the Philadelphia region.
Starting Feb. 10, Deb Braak, instructor in theatre at Penn State Brandywine, will move a staple of her Brandywine theatre courses from the classroom to the stage. Braak is currently directing a modernized rendition of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play “A Doll’s House” for the Players Club of Swarthmore.
On Jan. 31, Penn State Brandywine’s gymnasium was converted into a roller rink as the campus paid homage to its roots. Penn State Delaware County opened in the fall of 1967 in temporary space underneath a roller skating rink in Chester. It remained there until late 1970, when the Main Building was completed at the current location in Middletown Township, about 10 miles away.
The Penn State Brandywine women’s basketball team saw its 11-game winning streak come to an end, while the Brandywine men dropped a trio of heartbreaking games on the hardwood last week.
