Transfer applicants are those who have earned high school diplomas or the equivalent and have attempted at least 18 semester credits at other regionally accredited colleges or universities before enrolling at Penn State.
Penn State has rolling admissions, which means there is no deadline for applying. However, the evaluation of transfer applications does lengthen the review period, so transfer students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
If you plan to begin in the summer or fall semester you should apply by December 31.
If you plan to begin in the spring semester, you should apply by October 15
The University Admission Office at University Park reviews all transfer applications regardless of campus choice. Students should contact Penn State Brandywine's Office of Admission for campus specific deadlines.
Transfer student admission decisions are made on the basis of several combined factors:
- The total number of credits a student has accumulated from all accredited colleges and universities attended.
- The total cumulative grade point average (GPA) from all colleges and universities attended.
- Choice of major.
Coursework successfully completed at other colleges and universities that are members of the six regional accrediting associations will be considered for transfer credit.
For courses to be eligible for review: The grade received in the course must be equivalent to a "C" (2.00) or higher at Penn State. Penn State must have a similar program or course offering. The course should be useful in the student's program of study at Penn State.
College level coursework completed at colleges or universities that are licensed by state boards of education to award associate degrees or higher but that are not members of one of the six regional accrediting associations may be eligible for credit by validation.
Transfer Admission to Penn State Brandywine
Admission to Penn State Brandywine is possible after applicants have completed 18 semester hours of credit. All programs require a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.00. There are some programs, however, that have higher GPA requirements. The Business Administration and IST degrees require a 2.5 cumulative grade point average but will review all applications. All Education programs require a cumulative grade point average of 3.00.
Transfer Admission to Penn State University Park
For admission to the University Park campus, applicants must have completed two years of college level work and have strong academic records. Certain programs have more stringent grade point average requirements and may also require the completion of prerequisite courses. Some programs may not be available to transfer students.
