SPRING 2008 COMMENCEMENT

More than 100 members of Penn State Brandywine's Class of 2008 were awarded associate or baccalaureate degrees on Saturday, May 17, in the campus' Commons/Athletics Center. R.J. "Bud" Rowell, Jr., retired board chairman, president and CEO of Provident Mutual Life and trustee emeritus of Penn State's Board of Trustees, delivered the commencement address.

In his remarks, he recounted his own personal history of growing up during the Depression. His family had little money, and neither parent had attended college.  However, they strongly believed that a college education would enable their son to do whatever he chose to do. Rowell was able to attend Penn State as a recipient of a four-year football scholarship.  After college, he found his niche in the insurance industry. He encouraged the Class of 2008 to set goals and follow their dreams, but expect that the road to success will have challenges.

The commencement ceremony was broadcast over the Internet, and several graduates waved to family, friends and faculty who were watching from afar.

A video recording of the event will soon be available and will be posted on this page, so check back soon.
