Men's basketball time out 2011

2011-2012 Season Summary (First Half)

The Penn State Brandywine Men’s Basketball team concludes the first half of their 2011-2012 season and enters the semester break with an overall record of 2-8 and PSUAC record of 2-2.  Brandywine began its season in New York at the Houghton College Turkey Classic losing a close game to Division III Houghton College 82-72 on 11/18/11.  Brandywine faced a tough test in their second game of the tournament facing perennial NAIA powerhouse and the 2010 NAIA runner-up, Walsh University, ultimately losing the contest to a team that played Division I schools, Dayton University and Ohio State University, in their previous two games.  Freshman guard, Zack DeVito (Springfield High School), was named to the All-Tournament team scoring 21 points against Houghton College and 10 points against Walsh University.

In their only two home games of the season, Brandywine dropped hard fought battles against local Division III rivals, Penn State Abington and Rutgers - Camden, while winning two straight PSUAC conference road games against Penn State Greater Allegheny and Penn State Lehigh Valley, respectively.  Sophomore All-American and All PSUAC Team point guard, Rasheed Wilkins (New Media Charter), scored 21 points including the game winning field goal as time expired to edge Greater Allegheny 79-77.  Junior forward, Learon Pray (Chester High School) and sophomore guard Vince Mostardi (Archbishop Carroll High School) added 19 points and 11 points, respectively.  Brandywine continued playing on the road and dropped PSUAC conference games against Penn State Dubois and Penn State Wilkes-Barre to bring their conference record to 2-2.

Brandywine played their last games of the semester against Division III Rowan University and Berkeley College (NJ) at the annual Heritage’s Classic at Rowan University on 12/9/11 and 12/10/11.  Brandywine lost to Rowan in the first round before dropping a double overtime thriller to Berkeley College 88-87 in the consolation game of the classic despite getting significant production from their starting lineup.  Junior forward Mike McGlynn (Rustin High School) scored 21 points on six three pointers and pulled down 10 rebounds.  Rasheed Wilkins scored 19 points while dishing out 7 assists and grabbing 7 rebounds.  Zack Devito and junior forward Sean Mulkeen (Springfield High School) chipped in 12 points and 11 points, respectively, and 7 rebounds apiece.  Learon Pray added 10 points in the game.  Brandywine has shuffled around the starting lineup from time to time while getting key contributions from their starters and reserves during the first half of the season.  Rounding out the Brandywine rotation is sophomore forward Brandon Jacquette (Penncrest High School), freshman guard Kris Cassidy (Bishop Shanahan High School), guard Stephen Baker (Springfield High School), freshman forward Mike Scholz(Notre Dame Academy), and sophomore guard Kevin Bonnes (Ridley High School).

With Brandywine playing thirteen PSUAC conference games and two non-conference games against local Division III opponents, the Men’s Basketball team looks to build on their 2010-2011 PSUAC playoff berth in the hope of making the playoffs this year and reaching the Final Four at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College, Pennsylvania.
