Penn State Video Learning Network honored for excellence in higher education

6/25/2013 —

The Penn State Video Learning Network, a system of 28 identically equipped high-technology classrooms at campuses statewide, has won the Association for Continuing Higher Education’s (ACHE) Northeast Metropolitan 2013 Exceptional Program Award for excellence in credit programming.

At Penn State Brandywine, adult learners can enroll in accelerated programs offered through the Video Learning Network to complete their undergraduate degrees in business and nursing.

The campus offers an Accelerated Degree Completion Program in Business (http://www.outreach.psu.edu/bsb/) and an Accelerated RN-BSN Program (http://www.outreach.psu.edu/rnbsnursing/locations/).

ACHE is dedicated to promoting lifelong learning and excellence in continuing higher education. Penn State’s award was presented June 14 at ACHE’s Northeast Metropolitan Region spring conference in New York City.

“This award recognizes the VLN education delivery model, which is designed to make it easier for adults to access education close to home,” said VLN Director Rosemarie Piccioni. “As technology continues to impact higher education, it is imperative that Penn State continue to evolve and provide alternative learning modalities to adult students.”

The Penn State Video Learning Network delivers Penn State courses from colleges and campuses in a blended format — using both synchronous video conference classes and online work. Courses are adult-learner focused and emphasize academic quality, convenience and student success. Currently, many courses for five certificate programs and five degree programs are offered in an accelerated seven-and-a-half-week format, with courses scheduled during evenings and weekends.

The VLN previously received the 2012 Shirley Davis Award for Excellence in Synchronous Distance Learning by the National University Technology Network.
