Penn State offers an exciting opportunity for high school students to take college courses at a 50 percent tuition reduction. Qualified high school juniors and seniors can prepare for the future by earning college credits and experiencing the workload of a college class. Credits earned can be applied to a Penn State degree and are part of one transcript recognized at all Penn State campuses. Credits earned may also be considered for transfer to another institution.
A list of courses will be available shortly for the spring 2013 "Get a Jump" program.
Students who have completed their junior year or are currently in their senior year of high school may apply for high school nondegree enrollment. Exceptions for high school juniors and underclass students may be considered. Students who have graduated from high school may not participate in this program.
Applying to the Program
Interested high school students should contact their high school counselor to discuss the Dual Enrollment program. Students should also contact the Office of Admission at Penn State Brandywine, 610-892-1200, or email@example.com, for a nondegree enrollment form. Complete credentials to support the application process include the following:
- a completed nondegree enrollment form
- a current, official high school transcript
- SAT/ACT or PSAT/PLAN scores
- a statement from a teacher, counselor, or principal in support of the student's enrollment at Penn State
Students will receive notification of the admission decision, along with instructions for placement testing, advising, and course scheduling.
Depending on the class, students may be required to take placement tests in English, math, or chemistry. Students may enroll in any class offered by a Penn State campus, as long as the student has met all the prerequisite courses and successfully completed the required placement tests, and provided space is available.
Seniors may take up to 8 credits a semester and earn a maximum of 16 credits; juniors and underclass students must contact a Penn State representative to learn about their credit options. To remain in the program, students must earn a grade of C or better in each course.
It is the student's responsibility to arrange tuition payment. A special part of the Dual Enrollment program is a grant-in-aid in the amount of 50 percent of the tuition for a maximum of 8 credits per semester. Books, technology fees, and activity fees will also be applied. Students enrolled in a school district that participates in Pennsylvania's Project 720 may be eligible for additional funding to offset some or all of the remaining cost.
