Scholarly/Research Interests: Ethnomusicological research into music and pilgrimage in the Himalayas: folk music and audio cassette culture in South India; music and sound studio technology; music and the body; weeping songs; Buddhist musical traditions; Burmese music.

Recipient of the Milton S. Eisenhower Award for Distinguished Teaching in 1997.
Recipient of the Madlyn Hanes Award for Contributions to the Campus in 2008.
Scholarly/Research Interests: African and Asian Art, Art Education.
